Section U
Activities of extraterritorial organizations and bodies, not economically active people, unemployed people etc.
| Code | Division | Codes |

Section U of the SIC 7 covers activities of extraterritorial organisations and bodies, as well as classifications used for economically inactive persons, with 4 SIC codes. This section captures the activities of international organisations operating in South Africa — such as the United Nations and its specialised agencies, the African Union, the OECD, the IMF and the World Bank — as well as foreign embassies, consulates and missions accredited to South Africa.
The section also provides classification entries used in statistical reporting for non-economically active people, the unemployed, students and other groups outside the formal labour force. Each SIC code page on the site provides the official Stats SA description, the parent division (99), the SETA allocation where applicable, and links to related OFO occupation codes and NQF qualifications for diplomats, international civil servants and translators.
Use Section U when classifying employees of international organisations or foreign missions for census, household survey or migration-statistics purposes, when reporting on diplomatic personnel, or when researchers and journalists analyse the role of extraterritorial bodies and economically inactive populations in the South African statistical system.
Although small, Section U completes the SIC 7 classification by ensuring that every economic and non-economic position can be correctly recorded for national statistics, labour-force surveys and demographic analysis.
