Section T of the SIC 7 covers activities of households as employers, with 3 SIC codes that capture the unique role of households as direct employers of domestic personnel and as producers of goods and services for own use. The section includes activities of households as employers of domestic staff such as gardeners, drivers, child-minders, cooks and cleaners, as well as undifferentiated goods- and services-producing activities of private households for own use.

Despite the small number of codes, this section is highly relevant in South Africa, where domestic work is a significant source of employment. Each SIC code page on the site provides the Stats SA description, the parent division (97 to 98), the SETA allocation — usually Services SETA — and links to related OFO occupation codes and NQF qualifications for domestic workers, gardeners and home-based care workers.

Use Section T when registering as a household employer for UIF and Compensation Fund purposes, complying with Sectoral Determination 7 (Domestic Workers), applying the National Minimum Wage, completing PAYE and SDL submissions where required, and reporting to Statistics South Africa.

If you employ domestic staff in your home, Section T provides the correct SIC reference and connects it to the labour, tax and social-security obligations that apply to private households as employers in South Africa.
