Section S of the SIC 7 covers other service activities, with 27 SIC codes for activities that do not fit neatly into any other section. The section includes activities of membership organisations such as business, employer and professional bodies, trade unions, political and religious organisations; repair of computers, household goods and personal items; and other personal service activities such as hairdressing, beauty treatment, funeral services, physical wellbeing activities and dating services.
The codes are grouped into divisions 94 to 96. Each SIC code page on the site provides the official Stats SA description, the parent division, the SETA allocation — most commonly Services SETA, with FP&M SETA for some repair activities and HWSETA for funeral and personal care services — and links to related OFO occupation codes and NQF qualifications for hairdressers, beauticians, repair technicians, funeral directors and association managers.
Use Section S when registering an NPO, a professional association, a personal-services business or a repair shop with CIPC or the Department of Social Development, applying for tax exemption under Section 30 of the Income Tax Act for Public Benefit Organisations, submitting workplace skills plans, or preparing B-BBEE compliance documentation.
Whether you run a salon, a funeral parlour, a phone-repair shop, a religious organisation, a trade union or a professional association, Section S provides the correct SIC reference and connects it to the wider regulatory, tax and skills framework that applies to South Africa’s diverse service economy.
