Section Q of the SIC 7 covers human health and social work activities, with 14 SIC codes describing the institutions and practitioners who care for South Africans across the public and private health systems and the social development sector. The section includes hospital activities, medical and dental practice, other human health activities (such as pathology, nursing, allied health and traditional medicine), residential care for the elderly, persons with disabilities and children, as well as social work activities without accommodation.
Each SIC code page on the site provides the Stats SA description, the parent division (86 to 88), the SETA allocation — primarily HWSETA (Health and Welfare SETA) — and links to related OFO occupation codes and NQF qualifications for medical practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, social workers, social auxiliary workers and care workers.
Use Section Q when registering a health or social services entity with CIPC, applying for HPCSA, SANC, SAPC or SACSSP registration, applying for an Office of Health Standards Compliance certificate, registering as a designated service provider with medical schemes, submitting workplace skills plans to HWSETA, or preparing relevant B-BBEE compliance documentation.
Whether you run a hospital, a private medical practice, a community clinic, a NGO providing social services, an old-age home or a child and youth care centre, Section Q provides the correct SIC reference and connects it to the wider regulatory, accreditation and skills framework of the South African health and welfare sector.
