Section P of the SIC 7 covers education, with 13 SIC codes describing the full education and training spectrum in South Africa. The section includes pre-primary and early childhood development, primary, general secondary and technical secondary education, higher education (universities and universities of technology), TVET and CET colleges, sports and recreation education, cultural education, driving schools, and other education and educational support activities.
Each SIC code page on the site provides the Stats SA description, the parent division (85), the SETA allocation — primarily ETDP SETA (Education, Training and Development Practices SETA) for the education sector — and links to related OFO occupation codes and NQF qualifications for teachers, lecturers, ECD practitioners, training providers, assessors and moderators.
Use Section P when registering an education or training provider with CIPC, applying for accreditation with the QCTO, Umalusi, CHE or a relevant SETA-ETQA, registering with the DBE or DHET, submitting workplace skills plans to ETDP SETA, claiming Section 12H learnership tax allowances, or preparing the relevant B-BBEE skills development scorecard.
Whether you operate a crèche, a private school, a university, a TVET college, a corporate training company, a driving school or an online learning platform, Section P provides the correct SIC reference and connects it to the wider accreditation, skills and tax framework that governs the South African education and training landscape.
