Section L of the SIC 7 covers real estate activities and contains only 2 SIC codes — but they apply to a large and active sector of the South African economy. The section captures the buying, selling, renting, managing and operation of own or leased real estate, as well as real estate activities performed on a fee or contract basis, such as estate agents, property managers and valuers.

Each SIC code page on the site shows the official Stats SA description, the parent division (Division 68), the SETA allocation — Services SETA for property services and real estate agents — and links to related OFO occupation codes and NQF qualifications for estate agents, property managers, body corporate managers, valuers and real estate paraprofessionals.

Use Section L when registering a real estate or property management business with CIPC, applying for a Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Fidelity Fund Certificate, submitting workplace skills plans to Services SETA, claiming Section 13 building allowances or urban development zone tax incentives, or preparing the Property Sector Code B-BBEE scorecard.

Whether you run a residential agency, a commercial property fund, a body corporate management firm, a valuation practice or a short-term rental business, Section L provides the correct SIC reference and links it to the broader compliance, skills and tax framework.
