Section G of the SIC 7 is one of the largest in the classification, with 87 codes covering wholesale trade, retail trade and the sale, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles. The section organises these activities into three divisions: trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (Division 45, 9 codes); wholesale trade except of motor vehicles (Division 46, 37 codes); and retail trade except of motor vehicles (Division 47, 41 codes).

Codes describe activities such as new and used car dealerships, vehicle servicing, parts and accessories, fuel retailing, tyre fitment, wholesale of agricultural products, food and beverages, household goods, machinery, ICT equipment and metals, as well as retail in supermarkets, specialised stores, market stalls, e-commerce and direct selling.

Each SIC code page on the site provides the Stats SA description, the parent division, the SETA allocation — primarily W&RSETA for wholesale and retail, and merSETA for motor vehicle trade and repair — together with related OFO occupation codes for cashiers, sales assistants, store managers, buyers, motor mechanics, panel beaters and parts salespeople, plus links to associated NQF qualifications.

Use Section G when registering a trading business with CIPC, choosing a SARS industry code, applying VAT and CIPC tax-clearance documentation, submitting workplace skills plans, claiming Employment Tax Incentive credits or preparing the Wholesale and Retail Sector Code B-BBEE scorecard. Whether you run a corner store, an automotive workshop, an online shop or a national distributor, this section delivers a clear, structured SIC reference.
