Section F of the SIC 7 covers the construction industry, with 18 SIC codes spanning the construction of buildings, civil engineering works and specialised construction activities. The section is used by general contractors, civil engineering firms, plumbers, electricians, painters, roofers, demolition specialists, site preparation contractors, and developers operating across residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects.

The codes are grouped into three divisions: construction of buildings (Division 41), civil engineering — including roads, railways, bridges, dams, pipelines and utility projects (Division 42), and specialised construction activities such as demolition, site preparation, electrical installation, plumbing, plastering, glazing, joinery and finishing (Division 43).

Each SIC code page on the site shows the official Stats SA description, the parent division, the SETA allocation — almost always CETA (Construction Education and Training Authority) — and links to related OFO occupation codes and NQF qualifications for artisans, technicians and construction managers. This is especially valuable for cidb registration, where the correct SIC and class of work determine grading and tendering eligibility.

Use Section F when registering a construction business with CIPC, applying for a cidb grading, submitting workplace skills plans to CETA, claiming Section 12H learnership tax allowances, or preparing the Construction Sector B-BBEE scorecard. The directory makes it easy for built-environment professionals, quantity surveyors, accountants and HR officers to identify the correct code and link it to the broader compliance environment.
