Section E

Section E of the SIC 7 covers water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities — services that protect public health and the environment. The section contains 8 SIC codes spanning water collection, treatment and supply through mains; sewerage networks and treatment plants; collection, treatment and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste; materials recovery and recycling; and remediation activities such as soil decontamination, asbestos abatement and oil-spill clean-up.

This section is used by water boards, municipalities, private water utilities, waste contractors, recycling companies, environmental consultants and clean-up specialists. Each SIC code page on the site provides the Stats SA description, the parent division (Divisions 36 to 39), the SETA allocation — typically EWSETA for water and LGSETA or Services SETA for waste-related activities — and links to related OFO codes and NQF qualifications for water care workers, process controllers, environmental practitioners and waste management officers.
