Section C
Manufacturing
Section C is the largest section of the SIC 7 classification, with 194 codes covering every form of manufacturing carried out in South Africa. Manufacturing transforms raw materials into finished or semi-finished goods and includes 24 divisions, ranging from food and beverage processing, textiles, clothing, leather and footwear, wood and paper products, printing, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, rubber and plastics, basic and fabricated metals, machinery, electronics, electrical equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment, to furniture, repair and installation services.
Each SIC code on the site is presented with its official description, the parent division (10 to 33), the assigned SETA — most commonly merSETA, FoodBev SETA, CHIETA, FP&M SETA or CTFL SETA depending on the activity — and links to related OFO occupation codes and NQF qualifications. This makes it easy to find the correct classification for a single product line, a multi-activity factory, or a workplace skills plan submission.
Manufacturers, accountants, BEE consultants and HR specialists rely on Section C when registering a business with CIPC, choosing the correct SARS industry code, submitting UIF and COIDA returns, claiming the Employment Tax Incentive, applying for industrial incentives such as the Manufacturing Competitiveness Enhancement Programme, and preparing sector-specific B-BBEE scorecards.
The directory mirrors the official Stats SA structure and links every code back to its SETA, which is essential for skills levy compliance, learnerships, apprenticeships and discretionary grant applications. Whether you produce bread, steel, semiconductors, vehicles or pharmaceuticals, Section C gives you a single, reliable point of reference for the South African manufacturing economy.
